Great brewery, very nice smooth beers. There, Tropical Fruit IPA is very good. There, Mexican Lager is perfect light and crisp well worth the 🚗 drive. Their unique food menu, other than the amazing beer they make, is the second reason we keep coming back for 🥧. Yes, pies!! You just can have one beer or just one 🥧 pie!!! The service and the owner are amazing, very friendly, and welcoming !! It's definitely a hidden gem in Exeter😉

If we could rate higher than 5 stars we would! We came for the English style beers which were all great. Particularly love The Bruce. But the surprise was discovering how incredible the meat pies and sides were. That gravy is insane! We're ordering pies for Xmas Eve now. And beyond the great beer and food, we really enjoyed the vibe. Great staff and service, lots of happy patrons. A real nice hole-in-the-wall vibe. Love the concept. We'll certainly be back many times.

We LOVE Fat Hen! So much so that we asked them to cater an 80 person welcome party in ME for our wedding- and they did it flawlessly! The owners and their team are so kind and fun- we loved having them there on our special day and their food was such a hit that we had guests talking about it all weekend long! Truly the best pies and beer you can find!!

What an amazing place. It’s small and cozy, staff were very friendly, especially given how busy they were. Beer was delicious, I had the red ale. Food was amazing, I had the special Andouille sausage with red beans & rice. Highly recommended.

A great spot just on the edge of downtown Exeter. I've been going here since they opened and they continue to keep the menu interesting with seasonal meat pies and they always have their favourites on the menu as well. They also have very good wings and change the flavour with each menu change. They craft their own beer which like the pies has a changing menu and they also keep a selection of favourite beers on tap with about 12 beers in total. If you are not dining in, you can take the pies to go and they provide instructions on how to heat the pies at home as well. There is a good vibe and there are two TVs with either sports like the Premiere league soccer on during the weekends or movies or a good playlist on the speakers. The owners are all very passionate about what they are doing and are involved; no absentee ownership here. The staff are very knowledgeable and the bartenders are attentive and friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. It is children friendly and my son loves the pies and rootbeer. It's definitely a good change from the typical restaurant experience and if you stop in to get takeout you can enjoy a beer while you wait.

I’m extremely hard to impress 😎 especially as a designer who notices every petit detail… and this place? Yeah, it hits. The vibe is exactly right ! not forced, not overdesigned, just effortlessly cool. Colors, lighting, those subtle little touches… everything feels intentional without trying too hard. Food is 🔥 and the meat pies? Out of this world. Freshly made from scratch by a real chef, and you can taste it. The beers are brewed in-house (and actually good, not just for the concept). I’m already counting down to my favorite beer the BRUCE, un vrai délice 🍻 And the team , the owners? On point. Genuine, smart, welcoming, warm, zero awkward energy. It’s one of those places you walk into and instantly think, “okay… they know exactly what they’re doing.” Plus, the menu keeps evolving with new, seriously good options almost every month, so it never gets old. Exeter needed this. Highly recommend 🔥 I just love the Fat Hen 😇 Good Job guys 🤍

If I could give more stars I would. The beer was outstanding. I tasted the cask ale, porter, wee heavy and IPA. Honestly all were outstanding. I had the Mini Mike to est and my wife had the Apple Pie. Both were excellent. The owners were behind the bar and they were a pleasure to chat with. Honestly, I’m sorry it took me so long to come here. Fathen reminds me of the English and Scottish pubs I’ve visited in England and Scotland. I love this place.

I visit many breweries as a hobby, and on our way East, we decided to stop at Fat Hen Brewing for a beer and some bites. The brewery is pretty small: it has a small outdoor patio and a single small indoor room. The room is extremely cozy, with decor that follows a chicken theme. There are several seating options, including a bar stand, several tables, and a couch area. The place has its own kitchen. We ordered 2 different pies and mac 'n' cheese for the kids. All the food was tasty, but the pies were straight awesome - crispy, full of filling and flavors. I appreciate smaller breweries like these because of the community: you could easily tell that everyone here was a regular, and all 3 owners were working at the bar that night. I primarily spoke with Doug and Steve, and I really enjoyed the conversation. The guys are knowledgeable, approachable, and keen to share stories. On a side note, their logo is so great that I just had to buy a t-shirt. There were 9 beers available on tap, plus the option to order a flight of 4 or 6 to try more. The beers are diverse, spanning multiple styles and generally falling into the European/English bucket. While many such beers generally taste very similar, I really enjoyed the ones here. My favorites for the day were Otto Von Rauchberg (rauchbier) and Wessex Best (bitter). The former was smoked to perfection while still being easily drinkable, while the latter had a great mouthfeel and was full of flavor for this style. This is an awesome small brewery to visit, to talk to other locals and share great beers. If you live nearby or are just passing by, it would be an easy choice.
